Agua Milpa is known for producing large numbers of
fish, catches of 75-150 bass per day are normal. Agua Milpa was
stocked with Florida strain bass in the mid 90's. These fast growing
bass can gain up to 3 pounds a year. The average size bass is between
2-3 pounds and the big fish seem to be around 6 pounds.
Agua Milpa is a narrow 60 mile long canyon lake with more than a
hundred miles of shoreline. The lake has been open to fisherman
since 1997 and has become a regular destination for many American
fishermen. Agua Milpa contains tons of rock bank, trees, steep walls,
creeks channels and points creating a perfect environment for these
fast growing bass. Spinner baits, crank baits, rattle traps and
soft plastics will all catch fish but the real fun is the awesome
topwater fishing. Poppers, small spooks and soft jerk baits can
produce some of the best topwater fishing anywhere.
The lake is a 3 hours dive from Guadalajara, Mexico
via paved 4 lane highway to Tepic, Mexico. From Tepic to the lake
it's a short 40 mile drive on a 2 lane paved road. There are many
commercial flights from the US to Guadalajara. You can also fly
to Tepic but the only regularly schedule flights are from Las Angeles.
